Westover ŜKODA Master Technician, Mark Shemilt, Wins Top UK Technician Award

Mark Shemilt from Westover ŜKODA has been named as ŜKODA’s top Diagnostic Technician in the UK.

Having taken part in the ŜKODA Service Challenge National Finals in Milton Keynes back in November last year, Mark was recently told of his win. He was presented with his trophy last week by Andrew Ganney, ŜKODA’s Service Development Manager.

Mark now goes on to represent Westover ŜKODA and ŜKODA UK at the international finals in Prague in the Czech Republic from 9-12 June, where he will compete against the top ŜKODA technicians from other countries.

Born and bred in Blandford, Mark has been a technician at Westover ŜKODA for 10 years and a Master Technician – the highest possible standard - since 2012. He joined the showroom’s workshop team as an apprentice.

“This is an incredible achievement, of which Mark should be very proud – there are 128 ŜKODA retailers across the UK, so to come out on top is a great testament to his ability,” says Paul Dillon, Westover Group Joint Managing Director.

“He’s a real asset to the team and we value his input and experience tremendously, so we weren’t as surprised as he was to hear how far he’d got in the Diagnostic Technician competition! Everyone here wishes him the very best of luck in June.”

As part of the final judging process Mark completed five assessments, including challenging practical and diagnostic assignments.

He was also tested on his knowledge of ŜKODA and its 100 year history. The international final is based around a similar format and Mark plans to swot up on his knowledge of the ŜKODA brand before he attends.

“It’s really rewarding to find a fix to a difficult problem and that’s what motivates me – that and the people I work with,” says Mark. “I couldn’t believe it when I heard I’d won the national award. I wasn’t expecting to get this far but I’m so happy that I have. The next round will be harder still but I’ve got plenty of experience, I know the cars inside and out and I’m ready to do my best.”

In addition to working on customer vehicles, Mark also mentors a technical apprentice and advises the workshop’s newer technicians.
