The teams at Westover Land Rover in Christchurch and Salisbury are celebrating the latest success of the Range Rover Velar. Land Rover’s mid-sized luxury SUV has won the ‘World Car Design of the Year’ title at the 2018 World Car Awards.

The Velar picked up the baton from stable-mate, the Jaguar F-PACE, which won the award last year.

This year’s other contenders included the Volvo XC60 but the judging panel at the final stage of the competition – made up of seven world design experts – deemed the Range Rover the worthiest candidate.

“It’s every car manufacturer’s dream to win this title so we’re really proud that the Velar has been named this year’s most beautifully designed car,” says Andy Grant, Brand Manager for Westover Jaguar Land Rover. “It’s certainly an accolade that our visitors would feel is well deserved – we get masses of compliments about the Velar, its glamorous looks and clever engineering.”

The Range Rover Velar is designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK. Buyer can choose from six powertrains, ranging from the clean and responsive 180PS 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel to the potent 380PS supercharged 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine. It’s roomy enough for all the family but oozes luxury inside and out and also comes fully loaded with Land Rover’s legendary off-road capability. There are seven different models from which to take your pick.

Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer at Land Rover, finishes: “The Range Rover Velar brings … an abundance of innovative technologies, all making this vehicle a joy to drive and be driven in. We’re honoured that the jury recognised the tireless endeavours of our designers and engineers in delivering a vehicle with compelling design, tailored technology and relevant innovation which come together to create a vehicle of instant desirability.”
