Longfleet Lions U13s Kick Off 2016/17 Season with Help from Westover Hyundai

Longfleet Youth Football Club’s U13 team are kicking off the 2016/17 season with a new sponsor.

Westover Hyundai in Poole are on side, helping the young players get off to a winning start with support that includes new playing kit for the team.

The Club was established in 1988 and has grown to include 27 youth teams, spanning U3s introductory sessions right through to a highly competitive U18 side. Thanks to its strong community focus, Longfleet has been awarded the title “FA Development Club of the Year for Dorset” on two occasions and has also received the Mayor’s Award in recognition of the services it provides to local children.

“We’re thrilled to support the U13 team at Longfleet and it’s been great fun meeting the players,” says Mat Carrington, Brand Manager for Westover Hyundai. “There’s clearly a really good atmosphere at the Club and an overwhelming sense of team spirit.

“Westover Hyundai has been based on Wallisdown Road in Poole for four years now – several of our customers are involved with Longfleet or live locally (we’re just 10 minutes away) so it’s a great opportunity to thank them for their ongoing support and to contribute to our local community, albeit on a small scale. We wish the team plenty of fun and every success in the coming season.”

Team Manager, Jimmy Howie, has worked with the team for seven years. He started coaching when his own son, Fynn, began to play, aged six. Jimmy is assisted by two coaches, Gavin McFarlane and Rob Brown.

Jimmy says: "The team are really looking forward to their first year playing with 11 team members on the pitch. It's a big jump - the pitch is bigger, the team dynamics change and everyone needs to be fitter - so we're training hard but keeping the focus on enjoyment.

“The team has been really successful over the years, winning several summer tournaments, the local 9v9 League, the Dorset League Cup (twice) and coming joint top of Dorset Division One.

"We've been lucky to keep the majority of the same players from when we first started, adding a few each year as the team sizes increase.

"We are keeping our fingers crossed for success in our first 11v11 season and thank Hyundai for the help in giving the boys new kit in which to take on the challenge."
