Here at Westover Peugeot we have an excellent range of stylish but practical and accessible vehicles. We also have Motability experts on hand in each of our three showrooms in Poole and Salisbury to deal with any queries or concerns you may have.
As you may already be aware there are some ongoing changes to the benefit payments which can be exchanged for a vehicle under the Motability Scheme. We've highlighted the key points below.
The Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is gradually being replaced by a new benefit called Personal Independence Payment (PIP). The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) started the process in April 2013 and hope to have completed the phased replacement by 2018.
PIP is available for 16-65 year olds with eligible disabilities and will replace DLA (including for those who currently have an 'indefinite' or 'lifetime' DLA award). There are two components to PIP - a 'daily living' component and a 'mobility' component – and two rates of pay, a 'standard' rate and an 'enhanced' rate.
The assessment criteria to determine who is eligible for PIP differ slightly from those used for DLA. These changes may have an impact on people using their DLA to finance a vehicle under the Motability Scheme.
At some point before October 2018, the DWP will write to all DLA recipients explaining that your DLA is due to end. The letter will offer more information about PIP and explain how to apply for it. There's no need to take any action until you are contacted by the DWP.
The DWP will award PIP depending upon your ability to carry out a series of everyday activities and then - based on the information and evidence gathered, as well as a face-to-face consultation - decide on which PIP components (eg 'daily living' or 'mobility', 'standard' or 'enhanced') to offer.
DLA payments will continue until PIP has been claimed. If PIP is not claimed or has not been awarded, then DLA payments will cease.
The Motability Scheme will work with PIP in exactly the same way it has worked with the DLA, leasing cars to disabled people who are entitled to:
To be eligible for one of Westover Peugeot's vehicles under the Motability scheme you must be currently receiving one of the benefits listed above or, alternatively, wait for the outcome of your PIP assessment.
If you are awarded the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of PIP, your Motability provision will continue as it always has done.
If you are not deemed eligible under PIP, you will have to leave the Motability Scheme. To help people who may struggle during this difficult transition period, the Motability Scheme has put together a support package, including financial and practical assistance. For more information, please go to
