Sallyann Tanner, electric vehicle expert at Westover Nissan, recently helped the students and staff at Goldolphin School in Salisbury by participating in their Environmental Week.
Electric devotee, Sallyann, worked with Mr Dain - Senior Deputy Head at Godolphin - to plan how her vast knowledge of electric motoring could enhance the girls' learning.
As well as having a 100 per cent electric Nissan LEAF at the school for the week, Sallyann introduced students and staff to the technical side of the LEAF, explaining how an electric car works and talking about future advances in battery technology.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my visits to Godolphin," says Sallyann. "It was interesting to talk to a new audience - the drivers of the future - and hear their views about electric vehicles. A number of the sixth formers held full driving licences and so were able to drive the car and feel for themselves how different it is. There's no doubt that understanding the theory is more straightforward when you can see and feel it being put into practice!
"The interaction was excellent and both children and staff asked some really interesting and searching questions. The workshop sessions worked really well and it was fun talking to groups who were so eager to learn about the engineering and technical side of electric cars. All in all, it was a great experience. Big thanks to the team at Goldolphin for their wonderful hospitality - they really looked after me well."
Richard Dain adds: "I think the girls learnt a lot about cars and the engineering inside them. It's important for us to address a whole range of subjects within the school and this provided a great chance to do just that. Thank you to Sallyann and Westover Nissan for helping us take another step along the path of broadening our curriculum to include non-traditional subjects."
Goldolphin is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 3-18 in Salisbury.
