The May Day bank holiday weekend (Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May) will bring some new and previously unseen vehicles to the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC), as well as a thrilling Land Rover experience. Locals can be amongst the first in the UK to see stunning 'halo cars' – including the Lexus LFA, Jaguar's XE and the Land Rover SVR.
Westover is bringing its Motor Showcase back to the BIC following its success in 2013, when more than 3,000 locals turned out to see the 80 cars on display. Bigger and better than ever, this year will see 150 cars displayed in the BIC's Solent and Windsor Halls.
Some of the 'halo' cars to be displayed are yet to be confirmed, others remain under wraps but the mighty Lexus LFA will take pride of place alongside the Jaguar XE and Land Rover SVR.
The LFA combines a ferocious, custom V10 engine with a lightweight carbon-fibre construction and intuitive handling. It's an inspirational drive on the road but on the track it roars into action, reaching 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds. Its top speed is 325km/h – that's just over 200mph. Only 500 cars were made so there aren't many on the region's roads!
Jaguar's XE is so hot-off-the-press that it will be delivered straight from the Jaguar factory to Westover's Motor Showcase. It's a compact executive car – the most advanced and refined sports saloon Jaguar have ever made – and it's instantly recognisable, thanks to its sleek looks and luxurious interior. The XE has an all-new lightweight aluminium body which contributes to the car's power and its responsive handling.
Range Rover Sport SVR
New kid on the Land Rover block is the Range Rover SVR - the fastest and most powerful vehicle Land Rover has ever made. It has a 5.0 litre 543bhp supercharged V8 engine which takes the three tonne SUV from 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds and helps it achieve an electronically limited top speed of 162 mph. It has an eight speed automatic gear box and a new braking system, plus it has all of Land Rover's legendary off road prowess. The upgrades have been masterminded by Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations team and prices start at £95,150.
Land Rover Terrapod
Also new for this year's event is a Land Rover Terrapod – a portable urban off-road unit which allows passengers to get a real feel for the prowess of Land Rover's all-terrain vehicles. Designed to show off the capabilities of the cars – two Discovery 4s and a Discovery Sport - the course features a vertiginous slope and a knife edge ramp, plus 'walking holes' which generate a strong rocking action. The experience is not for the faint-hearted. Visitors to Westover's Motor Showcase will be able to sample the heights of Land Rover's 4x4 models on a first-come, first served basis, simply by making a donation to the Bournemouth Hospital Charity. The charity aims to raise £2 million each year to plug funding gaps the NHS cannot meet.
Bigger and Better than Ever
Last staged in 2013, the Westover Motor Showcase was such a success that it will be returning on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May. The cars will arrive from Westover's 24 showrooms across Dorset and Wiltshire on Friday 1st May in a colossal operation and are delivered according to their positioning within the BIC. Once at the venue, they are edged through a series of narrow passages and carefully maneuvered into their final positions.
The process is masterminded by Mark Whittam, Head of Marketing at Westover Group and Ray Gollop, the BIC's Assistant Operations Manager.
“We're really excited to have some great pre-release and limited edition models at our Motor Showcase this year," says Mark Whittam. “The manufacturers saw what a fantastic success our event was back in 2013 and they're really making the most of this opportunity to showcase their latest models to an important audience of local people. It's a great chance to see what's out there now in the car market, plus what's coming – and because the whole event is held inside, the unpredictable English weather won't stop us.
“We've got something for everyone, including families, so it's not just petrol heads who will have a good day out. Thrill seekers are catered for too, with the Land Rover experience team on hand to show visitors exactly what Land Rover's iconic cars are capable of. Prepare to be amazed."
Westover's Motor Showcase is free of charge and will be open from 10am-5pm on Saturday 2nd May and from 10am-4pm on Sunday 3rd May. Visitors can just turn up on the day but anyone who pre-registers at bic.co.uk will have the opportunity to win a brand new, family-sized car in a free prize draw - run in association with Auto Trader - simply by presenting their printed ticket at the door on the day. The lucky winner will be announced towards the end of May.
