Westover Buzzing After Winning Macmillan's Dorset Fundraising Award

Westover Group director, Mike Boyd, presented Chrissie Wathen-Neal from Macmillan Cancer Support with a cheque for a remarkable £4,420 last week, following the Group's fundraising coffee mornings.

Unbeknown to Mike and the rest of the Westover team, Chrissie had a presentation of her own to make. As the highest fundraisers for the World's Biggest Coffee Morning in Dorset, the Group received Macmillan's 'Top Host' trophy.

"Everyone here likes to get behind our Macmillan fundraising efforts," says Mike Boyd. "Most people have been affected by cancer in some way and so it's a charity close to all our hearts. Our teams get baking (and eating) with enthusiasm in honour of the occasion. I think most go home a few pounds heavier and a few pounds poorer but there's no doubt that everyone has a great time in the process.

"It's a real honour to have won Macmillan's award. We seem to have set ourselves a challenge for next year though, so we'd better get our thinking hats on. We already have one or two additional fundraising projects underway, so watch this space!"
The Group held coffee mornings in each of its 24 showrooms across Dorset and Wiltshire, serving hundreds of cups of tea and coffee and selling hordes of delicious homemade cakes and treat to peckish passers-by.

In addition to cake donations of £1,300 received on the day, Westover Group contributed 50p for every cup of tea or coffee served, £5 for every test drive or service appointment carried out and £50 for every new or used car sold on the day. Some showrooms also organised raffles or tombolas and one Westover manager gallantly took on the Ice Bucket Challenge, getting a soaking in his suit and raising £175 for Macmillan in the process.

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer, offering medical, practical, emotional and financial support. In addition to assisting patients living with cancer the charity also supports carers and families, funds nurses and specialist health care professionals and builds cancer care centres.

The Westover Group has showrooms in Bournemouth, Christchurch, Corfe Mullen, Ferndown, Poole and Salisbury.
