Did you know that anyone eligible for the government's Higher Rate Mobility Allowance can choose to exchange it (in most cases at no cost at all) for a new vehicle? It's estimated that only about a third of claimants living in the area take up the option of a car, but the benefits it can bring are enormous – so it's worth investigating.
Motability is the UK's leading car scheme for disabled people. Under the scheme, cars are available on a fixed-price contract-hire lease, which includes insurance, tax, routine servicing and breakdown assistance. All the Higher Rate Motability Allowance holder has to pay for, in most cases, is fuel. Vehicles are serviced annually and can be swapped for a new one every three years.
Westover is the region's leading supplier of Motability vehicles and there are masses of models to choose from at the Group's Fiat, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Skoda and Toyota showrooms. As well as having dedicated and experienced Motability experts across Dorset and Wiltshire, Westover also operates a Motability Charter which gives customers access to VIP treatment, including home sales appointments, a phone-ahead 'meet-and-greet' service, vehicle collection and delivery or while-you-wait appointments, and up to six free car washes a year.
"We have an outstanding choice of cars for Motability drivers and some truly outstanding deals too," says Mike Boyd, Westover Group director. "Our teams are committed to offering the best service possible and many of them have worked with our loyal Motability customers for years and years now. We've developed a 'service charter' specifically for our Motability customers, designed to make our services easy to access and a pleasure to experience.
Nicola Marriott, Motability specialist at Westover Nissan – just one of Westover's Motability experts - adds: "We work solely with Motability customers and we are passionate about helping our members to achieve a greater level of independence. The services we offer are wide and varied – it might just be some advice about which of our cars are easiest to get in and out of, but it might involve sorting out a vehicle adaptation. We encourage customers to think about their lifestyle and the suitability of the vehicles they're considering and we'll guide them to make the right choice if they have particular concerns about fuel efficiency or are keen to opt for a greener car. Anything's possible. Our customers tell us what a tremendous difference their cars make to their lives, so this is a really gratifying job to be in!"
A wide range of Westover's cars are available for no payments at all, including the Fiat 500 and Panda, the Hyundai i20, the Kia Rio and Venga, the Nissan Juke, Note and Pulsar, the Peugeot 208 and Tepee, the Renault Captur and Megane and the Toyota Ayo, Yaris and Auris. All those cars and more are available in exchange for the Higher Rate Mobility Allowance. With all the motoring costs covered, bar petrol, and a new car waiting at the end of the three year lease period, the scheme has changed many people's lives.
