World's First Diesel Hybrid Makes Westover Peugeot its First Stop

1 February 2012

The new Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 – the world’s first diesel hybrid – snuck silently into Westover Peugeot on Wallisdown Road in Poole last week, making Westover the first stop on its dealership debut tour.

The 3008 HYbrid4 will be visiting 14 locations along the south coast in the next three weeks, but a handful of lucky Dorset drivers who had already expressed an interest in the car were the first to get behind the wheel at Westover Peugeot. The vehicle is currently on a training tour, but Westover will welcome the first demonstrator model into the showroom in March, when it will be permanently available for test drives.

Gary Clark, who heads up Westover’s Peugeot dealership in Poole commented: “The team were genuinely really impressed by the 3008 HYbrid, especially by the drive quality and the seamless shift between diesel and electric power. It has four modes, offering the driver unparalleled flexibility – you can opt to drive in zero emissions mode (great for lower speeds and around town); auto (which means the car will choose diesel or electric for you depending upon which is most efficient); sport (which engages both power sources at the same time); or you can even engage a four wheel drive option.

“The training was a great opportunity for us all to learn a little more about the 3008. We’ve all read plenty about it, but there’s nothing quite like experiencing it first hand to really give you an understanding. It was a really useful day, which has left us all eager to see the 3008 HYbrid4 in our showroom line-up.

“Its technology is quite different from any hybrid that has gone before – principally because it separates the power source, housing the diesel engine in the bonnet, with the independent electric unit hidden away under the boot. It’s likely to shake the hybrid market up a bit, especially amongst business drivers who are keen to make the most of the tax benefits that a zero emissions vehicle can bring.”

The car represents a new chapter in motoring history. Its combination of a fuel efficient 2.0 litre 163 bhp HDi diesel engine and a 37 bhp electric motor is the optimal combination for a hybrid vehicle, enabling this spacious SUV to achieve 74.4mpg and keep CO2 emissions down to 99g/km. This is all without compromise to power or performance. According to What Car? magazine, the 3008 HYbrid4 is “by far the nippiest sub-100g/km car on sale, with a 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds.” In fact, they said “the 3008 is the best hybrid we’ve ever driven”. Prior to its launch, the 3008 HYbrid4 has already been voted Best Eco Car of 2011 at the Diesel Car Magazine of the Year Awards in 2011, and Best SUV in What Car?’s Green Awards 2011

The next vehicle to benefit from Peugeot’s diesel hybrid technology is the 508RXH, which is a completely new car for Peugeot and is expected in Westover’s showrooms in the summer.
