Land Rover Discovery Joins Life Saving Ambulance Fleet

St John Ambulance, Wiltshire has just taken delivery of a new Land Rover Discovery TDV6, which will be kept in tip top condition thanks to Westover Land Rover at Old Sarum in Salisbury. The Discovery, which has been fully converted into a serving ambulance by MMB International, will attend events in the region (including point to points and music festivals) where testing terrain might prove challenging to other vehicles.
As well as providing first aid at a wide variety of venues, the charity also offers first aid training. In addition, St John Ambulance Community First Responder volunteers attend emergency calls received by the ambulance service and provide care until an NHS ambulance arrives.
Des Young, County Fleet and Duty Manager for St John Ambulance said: “Our members have attended more than 700 venues this year, including many equestrian events, and it is vital for us to have a fleet of vehicles that can get us to emergency situations quickly and easily, whatever the terrain. The Land Rover Discovery gives us the confidence that we are able to do just that, no matter what road or weather conditions we are faced with. It’s also the perfect size for us to get our stretcher in, along with our life-saving medical equipment.”
But it’s not just the vehicle that has to be taken into consideration, said Des. “It’s vital that our fleet is kept on the road, so time spent having our vehicles serviced, repaired and maintained needs to be kept to a minimum. It’s therefore important to us that we use a dealer whom we can trust to carry out work efficiently. We’ve used Westover Land Rover’s services in the past and have forged a great relationship with the Westover team due to the high levels of aftercare offered. We are looking forward to working with them for many years to come.”

We were delighted they turned to us to help them support local people in need of emergency medical assistance. We were also pleased to be able to display the ambulance in the showroom for a couple of weeks – it attracted a great deal of attention while it was with us, which all helps to raise awareness of the wonderful work of the volunteer crews.”
