Westover Helps Plug Bournemouth's Latest Electric Vehicle Charging Point
30 November 2011
Westover Nissan has welcomed the installation of POLAR charging points in one of Bournemouth’s most popular car parks – The Square, operated by NCP. As one of just 31 Nissan dealerships chosen to stock the UK’s first fully electric, family-sized electric car, Westover Nissan was delighted to showcase the Nissan Leaf at the event, joining Bournemouth Mayor, Chris Rochester, as he officially switched on the charging point.
This latest installation in Bournemouth adds to the growing number of charge points being installed across Dorset, allowing drivers to recharge their electric vehicle’s battery while they’re out and about. There are already more than 80 other charging points within an hour’s driving time of Bournemouth and a further 70 are planned for next year, meaning drivers can hit the road feeling 100 per cent confident that there are plenty of ‘re-fuelling’ points available should they need them.
Sallyann Tanner, Westover Nissan’s specialist Electric Vehicle Relationship Manager attended the event along with four Leaf customers, including Dave Frampton – who, as well as owning a Leaf, works for the dealership as a valeter. Sallyann said: “As the first car of its kind in the UK, the Nissan Leaf is generating lots of interest from consumers as well as throughout the motor industry. It has already been awarded the accolade of European Car of the Year 2011 and World Car of the Year 2011, and is popular among those wanting to drastically cut fuel costs and do their bit for the environment.”
Sallyann added: “The Nissan Leaf is capable of achieving up to 109 miles on a single full battery charge and recharging the batteries is a very simple process – owners can either plug in at home overnight or use a public charging point. We already have three charging points at our Wallisdown Road dealership, including our Quick Charger which completes an 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes. There are also two council electric charge points in the Richmond Gardens multi-storey car park, which offer free charging (and free parking while you charge), and with the new points now in The Square, Bournemouth is now well and truly ready for electric vehicles. This is great news for existing electric vehicle drivers and those keen to embrace this new technology.”
