Beat 'The Twig' at Westover Toyota and Win £150 of John Lewis Vouchers or an iPod touch
Westover Toyota in Salisbury is throwing down the gauntlet and daring local drivers to try and beat The Twig - the showroom’s very own version of Top Gear’s The Stig - around a pre-set course to become the region’s ‘Star in a Hybrid Car’.Instead of trying to achieve the fastest lap time (as on the BBC 2 show), Westover Toyota’s prize will go to whoever clocks up the highest miles per gallon (mpg) figure behind the wheel of an Auris Hybrid, Toyota’s latest British-built, part-electric, part-petrol-powered car. The winner will receive £150 worth of John Lewis vouchers or an iPod Touch (to the same value).
Despite a published average of 74.3 mpg, The Twig – Westover Toyota’s very own ‘Green Stig’ – is currently topping the dealership’s leader board, having achieved a remarkable 81.9 mpg on the designated route. Currently in second place and hot on The Twig’s heels is Matt Carter, who logged a very respectable 78.1 mpg.
“We’re honoured that The Twig has chosen to make Salisbury the venue for his first UK appearance,” comments Adam Johnson, Westover Toyota’s sales manager. “His identity is a bit of a mystery but some say he eats dandelions for breakfast and faints at the sight of a gas-guzzler. All we know is, he’s called The Twig.”
“He’s logged a pretty impressive mpg in the Auris Hybrid – and that was without a practice lap - but we’re hopeful that someone local can crack his score and prove they are Salisbury’s most environmentally friendly driver.”
The competition is open until the end of June to anyone who wishes to pit their wits against The Twig’s driving prowess. Drivers must harness their environmental muster and complete their ‘lap in the most fuel-efficient manner possible to win. The course is seven miles long and includes both city and rural roads.
