Thomas Moss' Career Races Ahead at Westover Group

Local lad and Westover Group employee, Thomas Moss, aged 23, has raced through the ranks at Westover Group, progressing from weekend receptionist to senior marketing assistant in just over three years.

Thomas, who went to school in Verwood and Ferndown, started working part-time for Westover Land Rover in Christchurch back in September 2011.

Six months later, thanks to his enthusiastic and intelligent approach, he was offered a full time position as a trainee, learning the motor industry from scratch at the Barrack Road showroom. Fast forward another year to April 2013 and Tom was promoted again, this time into a Group marketing role, which saw him managing the online presence of Westover Jaguar and Westover Land Rover, under the wing of Mark Whittam, head of Group marketing. Quickly proving his ability, Thomas then took on responsibility for Westover's Lexus, Lotus and Abarth brands as well.

His latest promotion means he now works across the Group's 14 manufacturer brands and is Mark's right hand man.

“I've always had a passion for cars but I made the wrong university choice, opting to study Marine Ecology and Conservation, having shown a strength for science at school," says Thomas. “After a year I plucked up the courage to leave and pursue my real dream but, with no work experience to speak of, I was unsure how to break in to the motoring business so when I saw the position advertised at Westover Land Rover it seemed a good opportunity to get my foot in the door. I was lucky that Westover saw potential in me and gave me the opportunity to improve my skills 'on the job'.

“I hope my enthusiasm shows on a day to day basis. I'm always facing new challenges and learning about new cars or technologies, plus I work with some fantastic vehicle manufacturers and great people, so I feel very fortunate. It's really gratifying that my efforts have been rewarded – Westover's a significant company in the region now and I hope I can continue to prove my worth and perhaps earn another promotion or two in time!"

Mark Whittam adds: “Tom's a great colleague and has shown his commitment and ability to work hard from the start. He thoroughly deserves the recognition he's received and we wish him the very best in his ongoing career with Westover."

Westover Group has built a strong marketing team in recent months. The Group now employs 615 staff across 28 locations in Dorset and Wiltshire.
