There’s a new linchpin at some of the Westover Group’s showrooms on Wallisdown Road in Poole.
David Frake, who started his new role in January, assists customers who qualify for a car under the Motability scheme. He works across Westover’s Fiat, Hyundai, Peugeot and Renault ranges, meaning he can show customers 396 models from the one location.
A Westover stalwart, who originally joined the company back in 1986, David is on hand six days a week to advise about the enormous choice of Motability vehicles in the four manufacturers’ ranges (many available with no deposit and for a nil monthly payment).
“David’s running a ‘one stop shop’ for Motability customers, making the whole process a great deal more straightforward for our visitors,” says Mat Carrington, Head of Business at the four showrooms. “David can guide people through the whole process of getting a first Motability car or renewing an existing one, from start to finish. He can help explain the detail of the Motability scheme itself, run through the choice of cars available and their benefits, plus he can handle all the necessary paperwork.
"This is a role that involves taking the time to really understand people’s needs and circumstances and David’s the perfect man for the job.”
David began his career with Westover 30 years ago when he was just sixteen years old. He was originally based in the Land Rover workshop in Poole but soon became a service advisor and then moved into customer care at the Group’s Fiat showroom, then in Charminster.
After a period of self-employment in the motor industry, he returned to Westover and has been based at Wallisdown Road ever since.
“I’m loving my new role,” says David. “It requires a different approach but it’s one that suits me down to the ground. I really enjoy people and I’m always interested to find out about their lives. It’s absolutely vital that I have a good understanding of the needs of our Motability customers because the car they choose has to work for them on every level – not only must they like how it looks and feels, but it’s got to be spot on when it comes to ride height, ease of access and comfort.
“There’s a whole array of factors to consider which vary from individual to individual but it’s essential we get it right and that’s why the conversations we have before we even look at a car are so pivotal. It’s a waste of everyone’s time talking about a model that doesn’t have the necessary boot space or isn’t suitable for a particular adaptation.
“Motability is a brilliant scheme, which delivers a lifeline to people who might otherwise struggle to maintain their mobility.”
Motability is the UK’s leading car scheme for disabled people. It allows people eligible for the Government funded mobility allowance to exchange it for a new vehicle. Motability cars are available on a fixed-term contract-hire lease, which includes insurance, tax, routine servicing and breakdown assistance. Vehicles are serviced annually and changed every three years.
Westover Group’s Motability Charter gives customers access to VIP treatment, including home sales appointments, a phone-ahead ‘meet-and-greet’ service, vehicle collection and delivery, while-you-wait appointments and six free car washes a year.
Anyone interested in joining the scheme for the first time or needing to renew their existing Motability car, can pop in and speak to David at Westover’s ‘super-showroom’ in Wallisdown. Alternatively, find out more at westovergroup.co.uk.
