Westover Group is to join Sunseeker International and a small handful of other companies in sponsoring the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride – one of Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest fundraisers in the region.
The ride, which takes place on Sunday 2nd July 2017, starts from Corfe Mullen Recreation Ground. There are various routes available covering 10, 38, 48, 60 and 100 miles, designed to suit everyone from relaxed family groups through to regular riders. Roughly 800 cyclists take part in the event each year, which raises around £80,000.
Westover – one of the region’s largest independent motoring groups – is a keen supporter of Macmillan Cancer Support. Each of the Group’s 26 showrooms participate in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, between them raising £4,000 in September 2016.
As well as offering financial assistance, Westover will also be providing two cars to help move organisers and volunteers around the courses on the day of the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride.
“We’re delighted to have this opportunity to offer the Dorset Macmillan team some additional support,” says Mark Whittam, Head of Marketing at Westover Group. “It’s a charity that our teams are always eager to help and, with a number of keen cyclists across the Group, we’re hoping we can also put in our own team of cyclists for the 2017 ride.”
The Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride was started in 1989 by Peter Smith-Nicholls, following the death of his father from cancer. Forty two people took part in the very first event, between them raising £2,500. Since then, the annual rides have raised in excess of £1 million for Macmillan Cancer Support, all of which has gone towards supporting people living with cancer.
