Ferndown's Stuart Hillson Wins Westover Motor Racing Competition

Local man, Stuart Hillson from Ferndown, achieved the fastest lap time of the weekend on a Mobil Formula 1 racing car simulator at Westover's Motor Showcase. He visited Westover Jaguar in Poole last week to collect his prize – a Jaguar track day experience.

The Mobil F1 simulator, worth a massive £120,000 and used by F1 teams for driver training, saw a steady stream of potential Lewis Hamiltons take to the wheel at the Motor Showcase.

Stuart crossed the line ahead of more than 300 other competitors who drove their best over the course of the weekend, recording the winning lap time of just over 1.82 minutes (109.393 seconds). He was presented with a voucher for a Jaguar track day, which will see him roaring around a racetrack behind the wheel of one of Jaguar's latest models, getting to grips with the car in a real-life scenario. Stuart will also benefit from some instruction, helping him to get the most out of the vehicle on the track.

“We are thrilled that Stuart won the F1 competition as he's clearly a real car enthusiast and also a man with a head for speed," says Paul Collins, Westover Group Relationship Director. “He'll have a really exhilarating experience, sliding through corners and finding out exactly what a Jaguar is capable of, when he gets to the track. He'll also be getting to grips with the safety features on board, plus he'll feel for himself how Jaguar's innovations in design, technology and performance come together to deliver a car that springs to life as soon as you start the engine."

Having attended on the Saturday of the show, Stuart topped the leader board for most of the day. However, his lap time was later beaten by another visitor and, when he was contacted by Westover to let him know that he'd been pipped to the post, he decided to come back for another try the next day, when he recorded an even faster time.

Stuart visited Westover Jaguar on West Quay Road in Poole to collect his prize from Westover's Paul Collins and Rebecca Gander from Exxon Mobil.

“What a cracking prize – I'm so glad I went back on day two for another go on the simulator," adds Stuart. “My family and I had a great time at the Motor Showcase, so a big thank you to the teams for laying on the event and also for what promises to be the drive of a lifetime. I can't wait to get on the track and put a Jaguar through its paces in real life."

Westover Group's second Motor Showcase was held at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 May and attracted nearly 4,500 people. It was held in the BIC's Solent and Windsor Halls, where over 150 of the newest cars currently available in the UK were on show.
