WESTOVER WAVES CHEQUERED FLAG AT CASTLE COMBE
Local sports car owners raced to put their cars to the ultimate test last week at the Castle Combe circuit - courtesy of Poole’s premium car showroom, Westover Sports Cars. Guests of the showroom’s track day also had the chance to put some of the dealership’s latest demonstrator models, including the new Lotus Elise, through their paces.More than 100 thrill-seekers turned out to put their driving skills on the line, re-tracing the route of some of the world’s most famous racing drivers. Around 48 different vehicles – spanning Lotus, Porsche, Abarth, TVR, BMW, Noble and even an old MGB – all took their turn on the track.
"Track days offer a great – and relatively rare - opportunity for customers to push their cars and their driving skills to the limit in a controlled and non-competitive environment," reports Chris Amey, Sales Manager. "It helps that there’s no need to keep an eye out for safety cameras or think about speed limits! We had two cars spin off the track on the same corner but after a quick change to the route, the day proceeded without incident.
"As always, the Abarth models never fail to impress and this time it was the turn of the 500 to step into the spotlight. Many people don’t expect an Abarth to present much of a challenge against more traditional sports cars - but they always manage to hold their own with much higher priced vehicles and create something of a stir!
"The weather conditions were fantastic, with clear and sunny skies – a huge help to the drivers. All in all, it was great fun for everyone concerned and we’re all looking forward to our next series of events, which start again in February next year."
