Abarth 500 Drives Sales at Westover

Westover Sports Cars is advising anyone interested in buying an Abarth 500 during 2009 to visit its Poole showroom sooner rather than later. With an annual allocation of just 100 Abarth 500s, the West Quay Road dealership has already taken provisional orders for 68 of its vehicles, leaving just 32 available for the remaining nine months of the year.

“We’ve had a truly remarkable response to this vehicle,” says Chris Amey, Westover sales manager. “It appears to be ‘recession-resistant’ and it’s certainly hit the UK at a time when environmental and economic considerations are at the forefront of people’s minds and smaller cars are becoming increasingly popular.

“Many of our customers are buying the Abarth 500 as an additional vehicle. It suits the current mood and represents an economical alternative for people who are used to driving high performance sports cars, without the need to make too great a compromise in the style and individuality stakes. It’s a great looking car, it is never going to be produced in enormous numbers and it’s fun to drive, so it ticks many of the same boxes as the larger, more expensive vehicles with which it shares the showroom.”

Westover has more than its fair share of the Abarth 500, thanks to its premium status as one of just 10 sites authorised to sell Abarth models in the UK. But, with more than two thirds of the dealership’s annual stock flying out of the showroom in the first quarter alone, Westover hopes to be able to negotiate a larger allocation next year.

The Abarth 500 picked up Top Gear magazine’s ‘Best Hot Hatch’ award before its February launch and Jeremy Clarkson has subsequently branded it “a genuinely good, small, fast car”.

Thanks to a turbo charged 1.4 litre, four cylinder petrol engine and a sports button on the dashboard to give a boost of torque when needed, the Abarth 500 can achieve a top speed of 128 mph. As one of the safest cars in its category, it comes with seven airbags and an Electronic Stability Programme. Bluetooth and USB connectivity are fitted as standard and prices start at £13,600.

If you would like further information about the Abarth 500, please call in to the dealership on West Quay Road in Poole or telephone 0800 412 5593.
