When Auto Express recently pitted the new Lexus RX against the Mercedes GLE, first place was awarded to the Lexus.
The verdict from Auto Express was this: "... low CO2 emissions mean you can run a luxury SUV on a relatively small budget. It feels much more modern inside than the GLE, with superior build quality and more kit. It’s not quite as spacious, yet there’s plenty of room for the family, making it a nicely refined and luxurious 4x4 ..."
And, commenting on the RX's hybrid engine, the reviewers said: "The RX’s petrol engine makes for much lower CO2 emissions than the diesel Mercedes, but it also has decent performance thanks to a pair of electric motors. The engine only drives the front wheels to further improve efficiency, with the motors adding rear traction."
The RX came out on top for it's looks too, with Auto Express saying: "The Lexus looks sportier, with a sleeker profile ..."
The new RX - a large and luxurious SUV.- has been completely redesigned inside and out and majors on power and polish. It is available with strong hybrid engines, all weather drive technology and a range of high-spec features, including ambient lighting and handcrafted trims.
"We're not surprised by this result," says Andrew Mathis at Lexus Poole. "Lexus has long been throwing down the gauntlet to the German brands and the RX has it all. This is a premium car that shrieks class but in an understated manner. It's sophisticated and luxurious, with the added bonus of being very capable on the road and more economical than its competitors too."
