And no other vehicle can claim Defender's position as the most respected, most recognised, definitive 4x4 - it is Land Rover's toughest, most capable vehicle.  Making its debut in 1948, it was designed with brilliant simplicity for unrivalled strength and legendary ability.  Since then over 1.8 million Defenders have been built, with an estimated 75% of them still going strong!

Defender is the product of controlled evolution and the principles that made it revolutionary almost 60 years ago endure and have been built upon, culminating in the new 2007 current Defender.  Today, with an all-new powertrain, a distinctive re-profiled bonnet and a new interior, including a new facia, new seats, air conditioning and improved ergonomics, Defender is better than ever.

When it comes to taking on, and beating, the toughest off-road terrain nothing in its class comes close to new Defender.  Defender has permanent four-wheel drive with the centre differential distributing torque evenly between front and rear axles, and this differential can be locked so that up to 100% of torque can be transmitted to precisely where it is required; and, coil spring suspension brings excellent axle articulation.

Defender's all-new 2.4 litre common rail diesel engine produces a class-leading 360Nm of torque and enhances it's legendary capability yet again.  Defender's all-new six-speed transmission, specially developed for heavy-duty applications, is lighter and stronger and also provides smoother on-road performance with slicker gear changes and improved fuel consumption.  A lower first gear reduces crawl speed and combines with the increased engine torque to make towing almost effortless.  With a strong, rigid chassis specifically designed to handle heavy, awkward loads new 2007 Defender can tow more and carry more across more extreme terrain. 

Defender is available in a wide range of body styles including Station Wagon, Hard Top, Pick Up and Double Cab Pick Up and three different wheel bases - 90, 110 and 130.  Defender is the tough, reliable mobility platform for:-
