WESTOVER KIA GIVES DORSET MOTORISTS A TASTE OF THINGS TO COME
“Kia’s future is extremely exciting, with the company set to build upon its market-leading propositions,” reports Paul Griffiths, Brand Manager at Westover Kia. “Anyone who’s following the line-up at the Paris Motor Show will have had a taste of what’s to come at Westover Kia – and it’s gratifyingly green!
“We know that customers are concerned about the environmental impact of their motoring from the questions people are asking in our Ferndown showroom. There’s currently only a limited range of vehicles across the industry that fit the bill for people eager to have less of an ecological effect yet wanting to drive a stylish and practical, value-for-money vehicle. We’re delighted that Kia is stepping up to the plate, delivering some classy cars with convincing eco credentials.”
Kia’s 2010 Paris Motor Show stand sees the company showcasing three new ‘ultra-low’ CO2 models from its EcoDynamics range of fuel-saving vehicles – the Eco cee’d, Eco Venga and Sportage (Mild Hybrid), which all boast significantly reduced CO2 emissions (down to just 94, 114 and 117 g/km respectively).
The Eco cee’d five-door hatchback is a concept car powered by a clean, quiet and fuel-efficient 90 bhp 1.4-litre diesel engine. It has Kia’s fuel-stretching ISG Start/Stop system – which automatically switches the engine on and off in traffic – as well as optimised gear ratios and improved under-body dynamics to give a smoother ride.
Going into production later this year is the new Eco Venga, which is equipped with a 1.4-litre, 75bhp diesel engine. It also features stop and start technology, as well as low-friction engine oil, special transmission bearings and high pressure tyres to improve fuel economy.
As if that weren’t enough, Kia staged the world premiere of its eye-catching POP – an electric concept car, created by Kia’s European design team.
A second eco concept car was also debuted on Kia’s stage – the Sportage Mild Hybrid. Based on the Sportage compact SUV currently on sale across Europe, this new model is powered by a 1.7-litre diesel engine with a 5kw electric motor. Reductions in drag and tyre resistance bring the SUV’s CO2 rating down to a modest 117 g/km.
“These really are exciting times in the industry,” finishes Paul. “The next few years are going to see rapid changes in the types of cars out and about on our roads and it’s good to know that Kia is at the forefront of new technology. We’re looking forward to showing our customers Kia’s exciting new vehicles when they hit the showroom next year!”
