The Kia Soul EV - Kia's first fully electric, zero-emissions vehicle – has arrived at Westover Kia.
"We are extremely excited to have the Kia Soul EV in the showroom," says Gary Clark, Kia Brand Manager at Westover. "It's the perfect choice for those who want a car with a bit of personality but are also environmentally-conscious. Running costs are significantly lower than for an equivalent diesel or petrol-fuelled car, so it's a great choice for owners who live, commute or do business in busy towns and cities. It has lots of exciting technology on board and also brings a huge sense of fun, thanks to its distinctive styling. It's ready and waiting for anyone who wants to take a test drive and find out first-hand about the benefits of electric motoring."
A compact but spacious five seat crossover, the Soul EV is the result of almost 30 years of research and development by Kia. It offers motorists a class-leading range of up to 132 miles on a single charge.
The charging ports on the Kia Soul EV are hidden behind a panel where the radiator grille would normally be found. Owners can recharge the Soul's batteries by plugging the car into a standard domestic socket (11-14 hours recharge time); by using the Kia wall box supplied (five hours to charge); or using a public rapid charger, which brings the battery back to 80 per cent capacity in 33 minutes.
The Soul EV benefits from advanced lithium-ion polymer batteries, which are topped up by regenerative braking when the car is coasting or slowing down. The car has a top speed of 90mph and is extremely smooth. It is so quiet that it is fitted with a Virtual Engine Sound System which cuts in at low speeds to alert pedestrians and cyclists.
Priced at £24,995 after the government's £5,000 Plug-in Car Grant (PiCG), the Soul EV is currently exempt from UK road tax (VED), company car tax (BIK) and the London Congestion Charge.
Loaded with a range of features, the Kia Soul EV comes with an eight-inch touch-screen with European mapping, traffic messaging channel, reversing camera and charging point locator; automatic air conditioning with driver-only function; heated front seats; a smart key with a motor start/stop button; projection headlights with LED daytime running lights; front fog lamps; privacy glass on the rear windows and tailgate; and 16-inch lightweight alloy wheels with super-low-rolling-resistance tyres. In-car entertainment includes a DAB RDS radio with MP3 compatibility, USB and AUX ports and Bluetooth with voice recognition and music streaming.
As with every new Kia, the Soul EV comes with Kia's industry-leading and fully-transferable seven year warranty.
