Keen cyclists in Poole were once again being offered the chance to 'Ride like a Pro' thanks to local Jaguar dealership, Westover Jaguar. The event, organised in association with Ride Bicycles of Parkstone, took place on Saturday 9th August.
Westover Jaguar's event was one of 33 taking place between July and September at locations across the UK.
The ride outs are non-competitive and each follow a range of 30-50 mile routes generated, plotted and recorded using the social fitness app Strava. A rider from each will be chosen at random for the Grand Final, which will take place in the autumn.
The route around Westover Jaguar took in Poole's highlights and covered some 20 or 30 miles of varied terrain.
The Jaguar XF Sportbrake lead the riders, as well folllowed up to check everyone arrived back at the West Quay Road showroom safely. It is the official car of professional cycling squad Team Sky
Owner of Ride, Ritchie Hilton-Foster, and his team riders - including multiple British cross country mountain bike champion, Mark Chadbourne - split the group into two after three miles, allowing the more experienced riders to take in a 30-mile course, while riders new to the sport rode 20 miles.
Hilton-Foster said Jaguar’s involvement with Team Sky had given a further boost to cycling’s popularity, and had helped to redress the negative stereotype of hostility between cyclists and motorists relentlessly reinforced by mainstream media.
“Jaguar clearly has the modern cyclist in its plans,” he said. “They have a very a desirable range of cars, and they’re input into Team Sky has helped to give the sport a cooler image.”
The date of the Grand Final of the Ride Like a Pro competition has yet to be confirmed, but is expected to be held next month or in October.
The Sportbrake is driven by Jaguar's refined, powerful and efficient range of four-and six-cylinder turbo-diesel engines and represents a compelling combination of sporting dynamics and practicality.
As an Official Supplier to Team Sky since its inception in 2010, Jaguar has been proud to support the team’s back-to-back victorious campaigns in 2012 and 2013, where the British engineering leaders supplied Team Sky with a fleet of all-new high performance Jaguar XF Sportbrakes.
