Longfleet Lions U13s team - sponsored by Westover Hyundai for the first time this year - had a great start to the season when they played their opening match at the weekend. The team, making their first 11-a-side appearance, debuting with full size goals and playing away from home, recorded a convincing win against Bridport. The final score was 6-1 to Longfleet, despite Bridport's impressive statistics (the team finished third in the league last year).
Team Manager, Jimmy Howie, who has worked with the team for seven years said: "Longfleet looked solid with a strong back four and Sid playing really well, breaking up play in front of them. Midfield had to work hard covering so much ground backed up with a great effort, power and pace from Joe and Ben."
Congratulations to Joe Smith who scored five goals and Sid Hawkins, who scored the sixth. Unsurprisingly, Joe Smith was named 'man of the match', thanks to his successful boot!
Westover Hyundai in Poole have helped the young players get off to a winning start this season, with support that includes new playing kit for the team.
Longfleet Football Club was established in 1988 and has grown to include 27 youth teams, spanning U3s introductory sessions right through to a highly competitive U18 side. Thanks to its strong community focus, Longfleet has been awarded the title “FA Development Club of the Year for Dorset” on two occasions and has also received the Mayor’s Award in recognition of the services it provides to local children.Text here ...
